Saturday 28th to Tuesday 31st May.

Hmmm told you id prob miss a few days hehe.

Saturday was abysmal weather so golf was in the range, bit hotch potch to be honest as far too crowded but its still exercise. After that the dog n J stayed at my mams cos J had earache but I went to see my poorly nan in hospital and then my grandad ill at home.

Sunday J had Sunday school then it as the weekly shop so a chance for some incidental learning.

Monday was a wash out so let J have a pj day and I blitzed the house.

Today was the home ed group sports day.....Bridgend home ed group met up with the Wise Up group and New Foundations group.....was lovely to see J join in it all. Football was swiftly left tho after a lad fell n broke his wrist. Nipped to see my nan in hospital before heading home.

Friday 27th May.

Not good maths today he really struggled the poor lad :/

Science was cool, learnt were crisps came from hehe and also about the Pacific Ocean and deep sea creatures, man some are ugly lol.

We went for a walk up the mountain then to go see the unused slate/stone quarry that he learnt about last week in local history.

Thursday 26th May.

Had to jiggle the day a bit cos the useless Sky had decided to leave half of South Wales internet-less grgh!!!!!!

Did local history and local geography so we learnt about the early settlers and history of the Rhondda and also the fastest man in Wales.

Then it was cookery....Canada this week......we made Butter Tarts off a recipe from a friend in Canada.....Absoloutly gorgeous they are, far too more-ish esp to someone on a diet!!!!!!!!!

Just Sea Cadets to get thru now n hoping the juniors behave n listen or il have J on meltdown again after.

Soz didnt get this done yesterday.....Wednesday 25th May.

J didn't have a great night the night before in Sea Cadets so was in a foul mood still.....second time this has happened now :/

Did some maths, English and History which was ok but he was really not concentrating cos he was still wound up....going to be keeping an eye cos if it dont improve il have to look at the whole sea cadet thing :/

Had p.e then n he enjoyed that cos he went up the range first then played 9 holes so he loved that.

Tuesday 24th May.

Today was home ed group day.....Jordan loves it as do I....fantastic people and kids......http://bridgendhomeeducators.org/ . Today was soda bread baking n its yummy if I do say so myself lol.

Lots of other fun skipping, creating spaceships with lego with his pals, and more.

Sea Cadets was tonight mind n didn't go well cos J is leading junior but none of the juniors listen to him when he gives orders so he had a meltdown tonight :/

Monday 23rd May.

Poor thing J is still really rough.....did some English work but then half way thru maths he got into a state cos he couldn't do it (this is ks2 age 7 maths) and he ended up dizzy and shaky etc so he had half hour on the sofa and some chocolate biscuits to get some sugar in him to stop the shakes. After he got over the shakes etc then we researched America on the p.c. cos we did America for cookery in our round the world then did some art....he took some macro photos of flowers and he worked on them and made a print which im going to get printed for the wall.

Posted his letter to his penpals in Australia then .

Hope he feels better soon :/ Poor thing has had a headache n felt dizzy etc.

Sunday 22nd May.

Poor thing, my lad still aint well...ear ache, sore throat, cold etc.......had an easy day today......he has written to his new pen-pals in Australia so that's ready to post tomorrow and he has taken some macro shots of flowers ready for art tomorrow, but otherwise he has just chilled n done his own thing today.

Saturday 21st May.

Not done much learning today cos J has been poorly.... didn't even get to his golf lesson. I spent the day blitzing the house so that tomorrow afternoon is free in-case J feels better :) He is getting awesome at creating houses on the sims 3 and having requests so im trying to think if there is a way to incorporate it into art....maybe designing blueprints etc of houses :/ ?

Friday 20th May.

My lad isnt a well one today...sore throat and feeling under the weather. Did a bit of maths and a bit of English...English was 'J led' about the history of golf and all to do with it and he did comprehension work on it, we also did reading but as his throat was bad I read aloud to him. Did a spellings test too...he has 10 words on a Monday. Science was a lovely lesson and J had a blast...we did  learning about the Green Stinky Bug.....

as we had spotted one yesterday by the door. Then we went on to learn about the bird who lays the largest egg and the smallest...

..had a laugh watching a video of an ostrich running and then we watched a hummingbird 'humming' but then we spotted a link for a cheetah running and J asked if it was faster than an ostrich so we watched the video of the cheetah running and it explained how and why the cheetah is so fast etc....J loved it so we are going to do some learning all about the cheetah soon. He had study time then so he did his Caerphilly Castle Report during that time.

As the evening has gone on he hasn't got any better so wether he will make golf tomorrow im not sure love him.

Thursday 19th May

Did a bit of local history today about the Glamorgan canal and also about St.David. This afternoon was the time he had been waiting for cos it was cookery time....we are doing 'Round the world'......each week we will cook from a different country and that week we will learn about the history and geography of that country and their traditions etc. This week was America so we made Maple Cookies....

As we put in the ingredients my lad felt queasy cos it looked like a bowl of ummmmm well sick :/ But once it was mixed and time to add the coconut it looked much better..........

Baked them and tried them.....my goodness they were super sweet.....he didn't like them at all tho esp the maple syrup flavour so didn't have more than a mouthful lol.

We reckon they might have been nicer if we used white sugar instead of the dark sugar it has in the ingredients.

Lots of questions of my lad in the last day or two so am off to google the world and its brother as they say lol.

Wednesday 18th May.

Took some doing today to keep him on track as he was still hyper after yesterday and last night. Did some yr 3/4 maths n he managed some of it. History was 'J led' as I call it...he has a post it pad and any questions he thinks of he writes on it and I then research them and make up some info/work sheets on that topic....history was this as he had asked some questions about W.W.1. P.E. was today aswell and he wanted to go up the golf range so golf range we went.

He did a bit of incidental learning in Tesco as I had him helping with the shopping list and looking for foods etc and then when we got home he 'cooked' beans on toast for himself (under supervision lol).

Well that's my blog up to date....am now off to research the questions he came up with today lol.....and we have cookery tomorrow so watch this space for that...we are travelling round the world in cookery but more on that tomorrow :)

Tuesday 17th May.

My lad was really excited about today as it was the day we go to Bridgend Home Educators group.....id visited last week but it was my lads first time.....he was a bit clingy to begin but then pallied up with a lad n loved it.....he was really reluctant to do the baking cos of the 'mess' and 'mixing' etc and so many kids so bunched up but his little pal was so fab n encouraged him n in the end he joined in n added ingredients and used the whisk and put mix into the paper cup cases. After they were cooked then he enjoyed decorating them. He played outside n those who know my lad will know thats rare cos of all the bullying he has been thru but he played out for a good while then came back in for games with the parachute.

He was really hyper leaving and is excited for next week already :)


In the evening he had a golf competition with the rest of the kiddies from his golf class.....long night tho he got home half nine but was over tired so awake for hours love him.

Should have been picked up! Monday 16th May.

My lad had resat year six and was doing year 4 maths at school but today I realised just how much he cant understand and grasp not just in maths but also English and and type of comprehension. Did a few worksheets of year 6 work but am going to go back a little to find a stage he does understand then work from there. I know some dont do work sheets etc but he needs routine so ive done a planner for the week of lessons etc but am just doing worksheets to find out what he does n doesn't know etc for now.

Had a good time doing art tho.....he used photoshop to work on photographs he had taken at the castle.

Thurs 12th n Friday 13th.

Thursday was non descript really as we had camhs.

Friday we went for a trip to Cearphilly Castle, had a great surprise n got me n my lad in free cos CADW have a thing were home educators can get in for free during term time. Was a great day, relaxed learning and we did it in our own time. My lad loved the great hall and loved the information boards dotted around. He was quite taken with the giant crossbow too....or a Ballista to give it its correct term :)

Decision Made.

After a long hard think which has overall taken two years ive finally decided home education is the best for my son for various reasons. His last day in school was Wednesday 11th May. This is a blog of what we get up to and learn.
